Use Form 1040-X to amend a previously filed tax return. You can now file it electronically for tax years 2019 and later. Include:
- Original and corrected amounts
- Explanation of changes
- Supporting documents
The statute of limitations generally allows amendments within three years from the original filing date or two years from tax payment, whichever is later.
