The IRS offers two main types of Installment Agreements: Guaranteed and Streamlined. A Guaranteed Installment Agreement is available if your total tax debt is $10,000 or less (adjusted annually for inflation, see 26 U.S. Code § 6159) and you agree to pay the debt within 3 years. A Streamlined Installment Agreement is available if your total tax debt is $50,000 or less (adjusted annually for inflation) and you agree to pay the debt within 6 years. Both types require meeting certain conditions and providing financial information to the IRS.
