The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) can assist with a wide range of tax-related issues, including but not limited to: (1) Audits and examinations, (2) Collection actions, such as levies, liens, and wage garnishments, (3) Penalty abatements, (4) Identity theft and tax-related fraud cases, (5) Tax account problems, such as incorrect balances or processing delays, and (6) Issues related to the application of tax laws or regulations. However, TAS cannot help with issues that are outside the scope of the Internal Revenue Code or the Treasury regulations, such as state tax issues or criminal investigations.
